Carlyn Knight Competes in Round 2 of Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt
After Carlyn Knight won 1st place in the highly prestigious Omega Psi Phi Talent Competition earlier this year, they asked her back to compete again. Notably, what an honor to be scouted twice by the Omega Psi Phi organization! That is high a truly high honor and recognizes how talented Carlyn is. She went back for the second competition and came in 2nd place. She came away from the experience as a whole with a new audience, friends, perspective on performing, and a very nice cash prize of $1,000.00. That is so amazing! What has her journey with this experience been like? We spoke with Carlyn to find out.
On her second competitive performance, although she has a bit of shyness when it comes to performing, she said, “My experience actually went better than I thought it would. I am a very shy and reserved person when it comes to meeting new people, so I was most definitely nervous, but it all worked out! It felt great to be able to represent a whole group of people, especially a fraternity of high status,” she said.
About her singing process, she continued, “I never repeat a performance. Yes, I might be singing the same song, but every time I put a new feeling in it. I never sing a song the same way.” Which fully explains why her talents are so in-demand.
With such an attention-commanding singing voice, it would be easy to assume that professional singing would be in her future. So we asked what her plans were. She said, “[about planning on a singing career] – I do but I don’t; my actual plans are to be a hairstylist. Singing is always gonna be a part of me though, so I’ll always have a hand in it.” – Carlyn Knight.
We also spoke with her Mom who sent us pictures of the event, thanked VT for recognizing these accomplishments, and continued that her daughter’s experience has been absolutely amazing to see. She expressed great appreciation to Mrs. Erica Jones for her support by sending out emails informing the staff of her daughter’s achievements and accolades. Mrs. Knight said – “Carlyn is [very] busy! She blesses the DFW metroplex quite often with her gift of song. Stay tuned!!!”- Herschalyn Knight (Carlyn’s very proud Mom).
