Did you know our heart is a muscle like the ones in our legs? They only stay healthy if we exercise them! We even have to exercise our brains! It’s a muscle too”
During the month of February, Village Tech took on the challenge of learning about heart health and raising funds to protect all hearts by participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge. Through several different activities during PE class, students discovered ways to exercise and take care of their hearts and brains while practicing kindness and gratitude which goes right along with the 7 Habits we use on campus. Alongside the physical side of the challenge, several students also helped raise funds that will go toward helping those in the community whose hearts may not be as healthy as others. VT set a goal of raising $2,000 and we surpassed it with a grand total of $2,241.97!
If you know anything about the background of the challenge, you may have heard of “Finn’s Mission”. The mission is a way to encourage students to learn facts and help raise funds while earning electronic badges and prizes along the way. Out of our students who participated, we had 5 complete the challenge! We also had 23 students take on the challenge of being kind and 19 pledged to move more in their everyday life! Ms. Hinton, one of our P.E. coaches, is the one to thank for making this challenge a success and we can’t wait to see how the students step up next year!
