If you walk into the Forge Commons this week, you may think you were on the set of Master Chef Junior! Mixing bowls, measuring spoons, spatulas, whisks along with flour, sugar, and even some surprise ingredients were flying around the hands of our VT 4th graders. In preparation for Mosaic, which will be on April 23rd, 4G had a ‘waffle off’ this week. The students were placed in groups and had to come up with a unique waffle recipe that will be taste-tested and judged based on recipe accuracy and flavor. Some groups had fruit, some had chocolate chips and there were even rumors floating around of a group using Hot Cheetos and Takis!

When students were asked to explain their recipe and why they selected the ingredients they did, they were able to tell you exactly what they did and why they thought the flavor combinations matched. While this project may seem like just a fun thing to do, the purpose behind it is great! Students are learning teamwork, measurement, how to follow a recipe, kitchen safety and SO much more.
