Mr. Kelly Heathman, Village Tech’s 11th grade Intern Practicum and Career teacher, has made his mark on our Village. Although it’s only his second year as a Village Tech Squid, he’s made a significant impact on our students and staff.
“The way he forms relationships with our students is beyond amazing…every student has the utmost respect for him and looks up to him in many ways.”
Walking into Mr. Heathman’s classroom, you automatically sense that his class is just a little different. His passion for education and students is evident in the way he takes time to ensure students feel empowered to own their genius. When asked, several students said that they love and respect Mr. Heathman because he “keeps it real” and “treats them like adults and not just another student.”
One of the programs Mr. Heathman oversees and facilitates is our Junior Internships, which are part of our high school program design. He challenges every single junior to go out into the local community and secure their own internship that aligns with what they may see themselves doing in the future. Last year we had 73 juniors that secured Internships at 32 companies.
This year, Mr. Heathman has helped students secure internships in aviation, law enforcement, emergency service, animal care, event planning, and several other career fields. He not only guides students to a path to success, but he will also do what he can to make sure they are going in the right direction. His co-teachers said that he never fails to “get things done and his dedication to the students and this school is beyond compare.”
Mr. Heathman is a star member of our Village and that is why he is one of our Teacher Spotlights! Way to go Mr. Heathman!
