VT Junior Intern, Dominic Humphries-Rodriguez, Dallas Police Department Internship |
Dominic’s very interesting first week of his Junior Internship is with the Dallas PD. He shadowed 3 different detectives, learned various Police detective methods, and even had some hands-on experience. He is very excited about his time there, and it sounds like Dominic is on the right track for his career in criminal justice. A pretty phenomenal student experience, thanks to Village Tech and Mr. Heathman who heads up the Junior Internship program. It’s very fortunate for the 11th Graders to get a taste of their future careers, while still in school.
“My job for my internship is working with the Dallas Police Department. My work involved shadowing detectives, and for the first 2 days I did clerical work; I worked with the file management system called In Pursuit. In Pursuit is a system that assigns a case number to find the crime and the lead detective working on the case. I would take the files and write down the detective’s name and the case so that it could be assigned to the correct detective,” said Dominic.
He continued, “I shadowed a new detective last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: Wednesday I was assigned to the assault division, and a detective artist was over me and showed me some of the cases he was working on. He showed me how to write up a prosecution report, how to get it signed by a judge, and all of the work in-between that took place.
Overall, I shadowed a total of 3 detectives and on one occasion I was there to watch the detective interrogate a witness. … I understand the types of things that detectives and patrol officers go through and have to see and experience.” – Dominic Humphries-Rodriguez, VT Junior
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him on his career path.
