Cade Williams – Athletics, Academics, & the Arts

As our VT School year enters the final phase for Seniors, we’d like to feature one of our multi-talented Seniors, Cade Williams. He’s a track and field athlete with a focus on Cross Country, plays piano like a seasoned professional, and has plans to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Cade started playing piano 13 years ago, at the age of 5. His favorite thing about it “is to read something and be able to put those sounds into the world. There is no instrument that is equal to the piano,” said Cade.

He also plays electric and acoustic guitar, and said, “I like both for different reasons – the acoustic guitar has a great sound to it, and electric is cool for different things too.”

About his piano discipline, he fully intends to continue playing. “(Playing piano) is a constant learning experience for me,” he said. “I don’t plan to pursue it professionally, I’d like it to remain fun.”

In the realm of sports, he has many interests. “My favorite thing is cross country because it’s more of a team sport. A few of us made it to Area at Village Tech this year. Cross country runs as a team the entire season and has to qualify as a team in order to move on to regionals. This past season we won 1st place in our district meet – it was a really big deal, especially to me and my Co-Captain, Aiden Monaghan. Cross country taught me a lot about leadership skills and bonds with a team that I didn’t know was possible,” and continued that he also enjoys mountain biking (but not competitively), pickleball (a cross between tennis and ping-pong), and spending time with family and friends.

“I love hanging out with my family and friends, and spending a lot of time outdoors – especially mountain climbing and mountain bike riding with my Dad, camping, playing basketball in the backyard. I love anything outside – running, mountain biking, hiking and backpacking, mountain climbing trips – just being outdoors in general.”

When he’s not playing an instrument or doing sports, he finds autobiographies interesting and is currently reading “Green Lights” by Matthew McConaughey.

After Senior Graduation from VT he is attending the University of Arkansas to major in biomedical engineering, with a pre-med track. “After I graduate from the University of Arkansas, I’ll move on to med school and become an orthopedic surgeon.”

We wish you the best in your multi-talented endeavors, Cade!
